True or False: Kelly Slater Likes Beer

Individuals with large social followings are known to receive massive payouts for brand promotions. It’s even rumored that Kim Kardashian, who was made famous for her dad’s incomparable lawyering skills and the subsequent release of her sex-tape with rapper Ray J, has been paid half-a-mill for a solitary Instagram post. She has, to date, 107 million followers.

So if you were Kelly Slater (who unfortunately has never leaked a sex tape), as the greatest surfer of all time but with only 2.1 million IG followers, how much would you charge Michelob to be in their Super Bowl commercial? Maybe not $500k, but what about… fifty? 

What this really comes down to is what percentage of Super Bowl viewers will even recognize Kelly, which, let’s be honest, is probably less than half. A sad but true reflection of our non-normative pastime. 

Oh and, one last thing. Do you think Kelly actually likes beer? Other than that one he drank in the pit at Chopes, I can’t recall ever seeing Kelly on the tins. He seems more like a Kombrewcha kinda guy.
