As y’may have already heard, Mark Mathews and Richie Vas recently surfed Sydney spot Ours, in the deep of night. From 11pm to 5am, the righthand ledge in the mouth of Botany Bay was flooded with light from a cherry-picker, while Mark and Richie towed into some 10 foot bombs.
So, how do the costs for surfing’s most expensive surf shoot break down? According to Mark, the whole deal cost around $50k, all up:
– $20k for the lights
– $5-10k for the insurance
– The rest ($20k-$25k) was spread between the three filmers (which included one Phantom camera) and the four photogs.
“(Kid) Mac, Richie and I split the costs,” says Mark. “Worth every cent!”
Snippets of the footage can be seen in the trailer for Mark and Richie’s new film, Fighting Fear, out in November. To watch the trailer, head over to the film’s Facebook page, hit ‘like’, and peep the clip.
