Here’s Your Roxy Pro, Gold Coast Quarterfinalists

Hot damn did the Roxy Pro contest site look fun today. The girls event powered through four rounds today and, as the title of this piece would suggest, there are now eight surfers left in the game. “The waves are really fun out there right now,” said Carissa Moore, voicing the opinion of most the field. “All the girls on tour rip and you can see it when they’re given the opportunity in good waves. I’m stoked to move through to the next round in the event and hopefully the waves keep delivering.” Riss posted the day’s highest heat total of 18.43 outta 20 and will face Pauline Ado in the quarters tomorrow. Steph Gilmore was another standout and ain’t gonna relinquish her Roxy Pro title easily. “No easy heats these days,” said Steph. “Feeling very good on the equipment and the waves have been very fun for us to start the year in. Excited to see what the coming days bring and hope I can keep progressing.” South-African tour rookie Bianca Buitendag beat Sally Fitz and Laura Enever in round three and made her way into the quarters, where she’ll face Sally again. “Sally and Laura are such good surfers so I didn’t take them lightly,” said Bianca. “The waves are really fun right now though and I was able to get a couple that stood up well on the bank. It’s my first event as a WCT surfer so to be through to the Quarterfinals is a really good result for me already.” And, then there’s Alana Blanchard. She also clocked an upset in her first event since returning to tour, beating Coco Ho with a 17.87 heat total. Tyler Wright also killed it today, storming her way into the quarters. “It felt good to go out there today and put in a couple good heats,” said Tyler. “I felt like I surfed well yesterday but Coco got me in round one so I’m happy to get some wins under my belt today and surf well. The field is so tough now but I’m through to the quarterfinals and I’m hoping to keep the momentum going.” Have at it in the morning, over here.
