Germany’s best surfer gal Janni Honschied poses for Playboy
Okay, before you get high on your keyboard piety, let’s set a few things straight, shall we? Janni Honscheid doesn’t have the same surf skill set as Steph Gilmore. Janni won’t ever make the world tour. And, we understand that a German surf champ probs doesn’t hold the same weight of a surf champ in Australia or the US. We’re also assuming you’re agitated that Anastasia Ashley doesn’t even do the QS! So, can we move on? We’re finding this incredulously difficult not to post. Thank you. Meet Janni, 23, a model and pro(ish) surfer based in the Canary Islands who dates Irish-based big-wave surfer, Tom Lowe. In-between modeling and surf events, she works in her family’s surf store in the Canary Islands. She’s the reigning shortboard, longboard and maybe even SUP German champ. Janni is the daughter of a pro windsurfer and has been surfing since she was 10. “Surfing is more than a sport, it’s all about style and drawing lines in the ocean,” says Janni of surfing. “A good surfer is an artist.” But, she’s more than just a surfer slash model – she’s also big on humanitarian efforts. Following the Playboy shoot that took place near her hometown of Fuerteventura, she spoke out at a rally against oil drilling in the Canary Islands. Much respect, and plenty of admiration.
