Today in highly inevitable news: Brazil is getting a wavepool!

Wavegarden has reported that their Cove technology (see above, and below) will be the main attraction at Surfland Brasil, a new action sports resort being built in Garopaba, Brazil.

While Surfland Brasil has not revealed an opening date (which, seeing as how other pools around the globe have missed deadline after deadline, is probably a smart call), they do hope to be the first functional wavepool in the nation of Brazil. As of now, the only other publically known wavepool plan in the acai nation is another Wavegarden build in Fazenda da Grama,  which is a 2.5 hour drive from the coast.

Meanwhile Garopaba, the site of Surfland Brasil, sits on the coast, just 1.5 hours south of the famous Florianopolis region (home to Michael Rodriguez among other Brazilian pros). Garopaba is a lengthy 12-hour drive from Maresias, home of its lead ambassador and 3x surfing World Champion, Gabriel Medina.

Wavegarden’s press release reads:

The surfing prodigy tested out the Wavegarden Cove at the demo center in Spain several years ago and recently accepted the position as lead ambassador of the project. “It is very cool that Surfland Brasil is actually happening and soon we will have a Wavegarden Cove here for us Brazilians,” said Medina, excited about surfing endless waves. “It offers perfect waves that allow you to perform all sorts of maneuvers.”

In addition to the surfing lagoon, it will feature a skatepark designed by Pedro Barros, swimming pools, tennis courts, beach tennis, surf museum, restaurants, jogging track, gym, yoga, meditation space, spa, and play areas for children: lots of different activities for all ages and interests. The entire site has been carefully designed to make the least possible impact on the environment, integrating green roofs, solar panels, rainwater harvesting and native flora into the infrastructure.

The resort also has condominium fractions now on sale, starting at just $22,000 USD.
