Last week, we played our well-worn role of Devil’s advocate, asking whether or not the WSL should allow the mens #6 — Gabriel Medina — to fill Ethan Ewing’s injury absence at Trestles.

That cornerstone of that story was, of course, the fact that Ethan Ewing was injured and would not be surfing on Finals Day.

However, we did note that there had been rumors of Ethan “booking a flight to LAX and ordering a fresh batch of DH’s.”

With an Insta post today, the Bells champ confirmed those rumors, displaying a freshly sprayed batch of fluoro blades and an affinity for elastic workout materials.

“It’s been just over 3 weeks since I got home after injuring my back in Tahiti. It’s been great to have been back here with so much support with my rehab and I’m much more comfortable now that my pain levels have dropped significantly! I’ve still got a long way to go but I’m doing everything I can to give myself a chance to compete at Trestles!”

No word on the exact status of his injury or if he has actually surfed yet, but we sure hope he can make it happen.

Though his injury has led to subdued World Title conversation around his name, EE has a winning head-to-head record against Toledo (3-2), and he surfs Lowers like this:
