Come On Out: Tranny Night At Daydream Surf Shop
Sea of Joy, Hot Generation, and Evolution—Friday is Single’s Night in Costa Mesa!
Do you have a penchant for swept-back and springy single-fins? A luddite’s kink for V-bottomed plugs? Do you swing a little left of center on the style spectrum?
Well, Costa Mesa’s most thoroughly Instagrammed surf shop, Daydream Surf Shop, has a Transition Era fantasy night planned for Friday, with a triple header screening of Paul Witzig’s late-’60s masterpieces, “Evolution,” “Sea of Joy,” and “Hot Generation,” the trilogy that sent the surf world scampering to their sheds to start hacking at their noseriders, floored by the surfing of Nat Young, Ted Spencer, Bob McTavish, a very young Wayne Lynch, George Greenough, Midget Farrelly, Peter Drouyn, etc.
Here’s Daydream’s Kyle Kennely on the evening’s festivities:
“Join us Friday, September 7th for a night to honor surfing history’s Transition Era and all it’s glory! We’ll be screening the timeless Paul Witzig Trilogy which includes The Hot Generation, Evolution, and Sea Of Joy.
We’ve drawn up what we would consider a Transition Era nerd’s dream flash sheet with artist Felix Galvan who will be laying down some permanent body artwork for you to take home with you forever.
We’ll kick off the screening at 7pm playing all three 75 minute films through their entirety which lands us wrapping up around 11pm. See you there!”
It all goes down at 1588 Monrovia Ave.
