Come and Watch Mikey Wright’s New Film ROCK with Us in Newcastle
April 1st at The Prince, the beer’s on Balter.
Normally when we sing about a new surf film coming out our hyperbole is based on having seen, at least part of, the film.
But this time we’ve got zilch. Mikey Wright and filmmaker/one of Mikey’s nearest and dearest, Wade Carroll, are holding this one particularly close to the chest. But, Mikey’s in the select echelon of surfers who only need to put something out to ensure all will watch it. Like a Bond film, you might as well fight the inevitable and watch it at your first given opportunity. Which for Mikey’s new flick ROCK, happens to coincide with the first meaningful competitive surfing of 2021, the Rip Curl Newcastle Cup.

Rock has been in the pipeline for some time, and if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll have realised that, post our joint venture DUST, there’s not a surplus of Mikey freesurfing footage circling the net. Well rest assured that Mikey’s surfing outside the shackles of a contest jersey is more than worth your time, and that all the hallmark sessions of his last couple of years are packaged in ROCK. So expect nothing but balls to the walls charging in some of the heaviest wavers on the planet, ludicrously on-edge hacks, and wild air attempts on sections that few in the surfing world would want anything to do with. Not to be missed.
The Prince, Merewether, April 1st, 6:30PM.
