Breaking: Another CT Rookie Injured Before First Event
Sophie McCulloch pulls out of Pipeline due to Snapper Rocks snafu.
Last year, we lost Championship Tour rookies Liam O’Brien and Carlos Muñoz to injury. This year, it appears the curse has continued.
Earlier this week, Ramzi Boukhiam had to be ATV’d up the beach after hurting his ankle on a Backdoor wave, and now Sophie McCulloch has withdrawn from Pipe due to an injury sustained at Snapper Rocks.
After qualifying through a last-minute, Chicken Joe-esque scenario at Haleiwa, Sophie captured the attention of unsuspecting surf fans everywhere. The bashful gal from the Sunny Coast seems to be taking her injury in stride, and we’re hoping she heals quickly.
Her replacement will be Alyssa Spencer, the goofy-footer from Encinitas who finished just outside the CT cutline.
For the sake of Toasted star Caity Simmers’ ankles, lets pray the rookie curse doesn’t continue.
