An Update On Sunny Garcia’s Condition
“He’s been breathing room air completely on his own for four weeks and is getting stronger everyday.”
It’s been almost two months since Sunny Garcia was hospitalised in Oregon after an attempt to take his own life. For a number of weeks Sunny was in ICU on life support and there were a number of occasions in which it was reported (on Instagram) that Sunny had passed. Fortunately, that isn’t the case, and even more thankfully, we’ve just received a positive update on Sunny’s condition.
Precise details on Sunny’s current condition aren’t available – the family understandably want to maintain as much privacy as possible – but earlier today Kaila posted to Instagram about her dad.
“While mentally and physically dad has improved a lot, he has also faced a lot of challenges that can happen from being in the hospital for an extended amount of time.” Part of the post by Kaila read. “When someone’s brain is injured, recovery can take time, so my family asks for your patience as we try to maintain some privacy during these uncertain times.”
“Dad has a long way to go before we can say anything specific about his recovery, but one really big positive about my dad is that he’s been breathing room air completely on his own for four weeks and is getting stronger everyday.”
As Kaila eloquently put it, Sunny is in a marathon, not a sprint. Brain injuries take time to heal, and while it’s easy to assume the worst, theres no easy way to understand the ongoing impact this injury will have on Sunny’s life.
Our thoughts go out to Sunny, his family and friends. Let’s hope to see him out of hospital and hopefully back in the water in the not too distant future.
