A John Florence Foot Slice And Possible Kelly No-Show

“Mr Slater, will we being seeing you at Snapper?” asks Stab. “Good question,” quips Kelly.

Yesterday on the inevitable Snapper Rocks run around, John John Florence went for a slip and consequently diced open his left foot.

The World Champ was flicking a couple grains of sand Kolohe’s way and unfortunately paid the price for the small little prank. We’re not sure on the exact dimensions of the cut but John pushed through for a quick surf, however, he only snuck two waves and came in.

John was back in the water this morning and his heat is fast approaching, we’re sure he’ll be okay but if you’re in need of an excuse in case John goes down to Mikey Wright or Griff Colapinto then you’re in luck.

In other rumour news, Kelly’s current destination is unknown, he may still be in Hawaii, he may be mid-transit or perhaps he’s in a private car escort from Brisbane airport at this very minute. While rumours swirled on the ground on the Goldy last night, we hit up Kelly with the pressing question.

“Mr Slater, will you be making your way to Snapper?”

And it appears the GOAT is quite sure himself.

“Good question.” Was Kelly’s response.

Kelly is meant to be in Heat 12 this afternoon, the surf looks rippable, the current is steaming – as Morgan and myself found out first hand while watching a ski driver graciously give Mr Florence and Mr Fanning lifts back up the point this morning – and we’ll have to wait ’till this afternoon for an answer on Kelly’s situation. If he decides against the Quik Pro then Mikey February will take his place in Heat 12.

We were assured by our friends at Quik that Kelly would, in fact, be at the event.

After all, he’s done this before.
