What’s The Smallest Board That Can Be Ridden At Overhead Cloudbreak?
Kelly Slater tries to find out.
Today in humbling video clips: Kelly Slater taming Cloudbreak on a board of comical dimensions. Imagine being around 1.81 metres (or 5’9″, Kelly’s height) tall and paddling around on something 161 centimetres long, or a 5’3 (the size of the board under Kelly’s feet here), in sizable surf. Unless you’re able to keep your centre of gravity consistently hovering just above your ankles, it’d be a preposterous endeavour. Gaining speed, doing bottom turns, moving in general. Everything would result in a spin out. Yet here’s Kelly, slicing and grooving his way through solid double-overhead plus Cloudbreak with ease on his fibreglass toothpick. It might as well be another day riding the biscuit at lumpy Sebastian Inlet for Mr Slater.
