We’ll Take One Of Whatever Koa Smith Is Riding!
Introducing Pyzel’s mischievous small-wave sled, The Gremlin.
As surfers, we are often the victims of our own self-delusion.
We see flashes of brilliance from John, Jordy and Filipe and believe, even if just for a moment, that their hard-earned abilities could be gained through the procurement of their clearly superior surfboard. But the truth is that a revamped rail-line or accentuated Vee can only do so much to assist the flailing, belligerent mess atop its fiberglass shell.
Deep down we understand that a new board can only improve our surfing by a slim margin, but we find it difficult to fight the notion that that elusive nosepick reverse is just one smart purchase away.
But logically speaking, the only reason to get a new board is to feel something different. Something that your current quiver can’t provide, whether that’s the effortless glide of a log, the speed and whip of a round-nosed fish, or the utter awfulness of a 90’s style elf-slipper.
And if the clip above, featuring a coffeed-up Koa Smith on Pyzel’s new Gremlin model, doesn’t make you want to bust out your wallet and launch into the mesosphere, you must already have a fantastic small wave craft at your disposal.
Because the Gremlin looks fucking awesome.
For those of you who are still looking for your go-to summer stick, here’s a little info on Pyzel’s newest creation:
The Gremlin was made to get you excited about surfing on the days that are less-than-epic, and also to give you a taste of FunFormance that will get you fired up in any kind of surf.
The wider outline is complimented by a low entry rocker for easy speed and glide through the weakest, slowest sections, but we keep a bit of curve through the tail rocker to add performance and maneuverability.
The bottom runs from single to double concave, with a nice bit of Vee running of the tail.
This all adds up to a board that paddles easy, gets up and goes fast, and still has a snappy, drivey, high-performance feel to get you the most out of every Wave you catch.
Ride it just above your height or up to 6″ shorter (depending on your surfing ability), nice and wide and thicker then your shortboard.
Koa rides his Gremlin as a PU, but a stock EPS version is currently in production for those piddly California days. Oh, and the epoxies will be made with certified ECO foam, if you care about that sort of thing.
