Slater Can’t Get Off His Cymatic At Haleiwa
Can you blame him?
About 10 months ago, Kelly Slater revealed his and Daniel Thomson’s newest creation to the wider surfing public.
To introduce his futuristic surf craft, Slater put the snub-nosed, bat-tailed board just about everywhere on pulsing Haleiwa walls, sending surfboard aficionados into a brief epilepsy with his fast, loose surfing paired to a punchy electronic beat (below).
That board was called a Cymatic and even a year past its initial release, Slater still can’t get off the thing – especially at plus-sized Haleiwa.
Yesterday Firewire posted a video of Slater taking his Cymatic to even bigger, lumpier Haleiwa (top of page). The 5’3 (yes, 5’3) performed remarkably well considering its size relative to the surf, providing Kelly with ample speed and control.
“I just need a clean day out there to see how big a wave this thing can handle,” Slater wrote on Instagram.
And if you’re wondering how a Cymatic would suit the everyman and/or perform in more, ahem, modest conditions, you can check out Stab’s Joyride board test on the Cymatic below.
