Asher Wales Don’t Need No Wax
The Aussie screwfoot drops hammers in Cali for Gorilla’s latest in adhesive board grip.
Back in the 90’s – a time packed with nooners, shin scraping trunks and a generally questionable fashion sense – Gorilla released a line of clips aptly titled, ‘Gripping Stuff’. Today, a good 20-plus years down the track, Gorilla are back to reinvent their old line, despite never giving up on their primary purpose of making grips for your stick.
Aussie goofy footer, Asher Wales sits amongst the ranks of Ozzie Wright and Andrew Doheny on the Gorilla team and this latest edit accompanies the release of his preferred tailpad, ‘The Jane’.
And let’s be honest, there’s no need to surf a shortboard lacking a backpad in this day and age. It might be a cardinal sin to whack one on a twin or longboard, but anything that garners the word “performance board’ is better off with one. Whether you’re doing laybacks, finners or even just a stock standard cutback, you’re always going to be thankful whens there’s a little artificial grip sitting pretty under your hind leg.
If you have a new stick in need, or if your previous pad has succumb to the dreaded peel, then head over to the Gorilla website (here) and hook into ‘The Jane’ backpad that is part of their core series. You can cop it in the ever stylish black, or if you’re feeling a little fruity, there’s blue, yellow and red to tickle your aesthetic eye too.
