Rangi Ormond and Otis Carey, Bungan, Australia
An odd name ain’t the only radical thing Rangi Ormond possesses. He also has cool hair, great clothing and lives in a Caravan on the East side of his native New Zealand, in a place called Whangamatta. Oh, and he lights up in the soup, big-time. Similarly to Rangi, Otis Carey, from Bondi Beach, Australia, also wears great clothes, has killer hair and throws heat in the ocean. Though, he don’t live in a caravan. Rangi’s in Oz for a coupla weeks and has been surfing furiously. Ozzie Wright called the two men up on the weekend and told them to come surf on the North side of Sydney, so they met Oz at a spot called Bungan. From the check-point up on a cliff, it looked pretty lousy, but the gang dived in anyhow. On this particular wave, Rangi burned Otis. They had a laugh, then saw the approaching ramp, exchanged a quick look and floored it, both punting at the same time. As y’may know, this kinda thing really tickles us. Two pals, flying through the air together. It’s a moment that kinda embodies the whole reason men ride waves – for fun.
