Patty Gudauskas, Ballito, Durban, South Africa
“We were supposed to be out of here yesterday,” says Californian Patty Gudauskas of leaving Ballito, Durban, for Jeffrey’s Bay. “But none of us were in any condition to fly.” The reason Patty and crew couldn’t face a 10am check-out and the traverse from Ballito over to J-Bay, was ’cause they painted the town red the previous night. After Patty lifted the first place trophy above his head on the Mr Price Pro, Ballito podium (with John John standing next to him in second), the ensuing evening of decadence was truly raucous. Ryan Miller, who shot this, was thrilled that the gang stuck around in Durban, ’cause the waves were still good and J-Bay’s flat as heck. And at this point, two days out from the Billabong pro, forecast ain’t looking too good either.
