Nate Florence, Kala Alexander and Eli Olson, Waimea Bay, Hawaii
“A big north swell poured in overnight and no one really knew what to expect,” says photographer Ryan Miller from the North Shore, who captured this party wave at Waimea Bay this morning. “It was one of those just-wake-up-and-check-it kinda days. Hundreds of sleepy eyeballs were looking at Pipe this morning and instantly you could tell it was too wild out there to surf anytime soon. Waimea was a decent call this morning.” And according to Miller, while the bay can get talked-down a little, standing on the beach and watching it unfold does nothing to minimise its rep: “Guys kinda dog this wave but it looks scary as fuck to me. Just look at everything happening here from before the take off with 15 guys paddling to that huge section you have to wrap your head around. Looks wild out there.” Three men who probably ain’t as scared of it as Miller are Nathan Florence (on the outside), Kala Alexander (middle) and Eli Olson (inside). Sharing ain’t usually caring on the North Shore, but when in the Bay, right?
