It’s easy to forget Tahiti is a wave-rich land beyond the reef of Teahupoo. Case in point, Michel Bourez and a deceptively mean spot which wouldn’t look out of place in rubber and on the end of a South Coast NSW rock shelf. This isn’t a recent shot – it’s a Full Frame that appeared in Stab print – but with the Chopes Pro fast approaching, it’s rather pertinent. “We launched the ski and checked a few spots, but the swell was too big for most of them,” says our local lensman, Dom Mosqueira. “All seemed lost til we came upon this spot that we’d surfed a while back when it was maxing out. Michel decided to jump in and it was an amazing session to watch. Just Michel out by himself for hours getting tube after tube. We were both hooting after almost every wave, it was such an amazing treat to document! Home never ceases to amaze me with the waves you can find. Slab hunting paid off in spades.”
