Marlon Gerber Finds Peace At Home, Indonesia
Why travel the world when the gold is in your own backyard?
“I live in the best place in the world to be a surfer,” Bali local, Marlon Gerber tells Stab. “I’ve travelled a lot overseas only to surf shitty waves. I’d find it would be going off at home every time I went away. So, recently I’ve just been adventuring around Indonesia and I’ve been scoring non stop.”
Marlon’s easygoing poise and grin, project a misleading image however. What’s unmentioned by this moment is the tough conditions he and photographer Matthew Hodge had to battle in order to link up the shot. The ocean had been very active that day and heavy currents made for an elevated challenge for everyone in the water. “A handful of surfers and photographers had to be air lifted to shore by the life guards,” Mr Hodge explained. “But Marlon’s wave selection combined with his effortless style, lit up this wave with silky smooth precision.”
