Kolohe Andino, San Clemente, CA
Photog James ‘Jimmicane’ Wilson has never seen this spot good. He’s not sure it’s even possible for this place to get good. Before you think this is a no-grab throw-away, think again. Jimmicane’s a real stickler when it comes to airs and grabs – we even asked him to write a story for us outlining every different aerial and grab-variation for our Hard Cover book, on sale now. According to Jimmy:
“Kolohe’s letting go on a stalefish. The frame before this he had it grabbed but was being covered up by his board. I like that he’s let go already though. When you grab early, before you take off, or hold a grab for too long, as you’re landing, that’s not good. Early and/or late grabs are shit. That’s what beginners do when they first learn how to do airs. Kolohe is not a beginner. He’s one of the best in the world and also one of the most photogenic. This is just him out in his home waters practicing dance moves for the Winter Formal he’ll be attending this evening.”
