Gallery: Kerrzy’s Going Mental In The Ments

The newly retired gent is making the most of his time off.

Officially retired before the age of 40, Aussie aerial mastermind Josh Kerr has got this whole life thing pretty well sorted. At the moment he’s stationed at the Kandui Resort with his beautiful wife and children, soaking up the incredible waves, weather, and freshly caught fish that the Mentawaii Islands have become synonymous with.

…And he’s probably getting paid to do it.

“Kerrzy was super consistent in the air session, I saw him popping lots, even when I didn’t have the camera out, and I don’t recall seeing him fall once.”

Based on the photos we’ve received from resident lensman Angus Sheridan, Josh’s main concerns include which incredible wave he wants to surf today, and on what combination of foam and fins he’d like to attack it. Bank Vaults on the Album quad, Pitstops on unnamed twinny, or perhaps Kandui on one of his asymmetrical spears?

“The airs were shot at Pitstops the afternoon before the swell filled in,” Angus told Stab. “The storm hovered over the back for an hour or so and presented Pitstops with some amazing light. It went overcast for a while but we never got hit by the rain.”

“The barrel (above) was from the big morning at Bank Vaults, just around the corner from the resort,” Angus continued. “It was one of the best days with swell and conditions that people have seen in the past decade here. There were a lot of big ones, but Kerrzy’s was definitely the best barrel I saw that session.”

Also worth noting (for the aspiring forehand tuberider) is Josh’s stance as he exits the tube (below). Do you see how both feet are on one side of the stringer, his back toes even kissing the water? That’s how you hold your rail in the wall, especially when, as in Josh’s case, you’re riding an undersized craft in solid tubes. A cheeky trick tip from one of the world’s best barrel riders to the rest of us.

Look how his toes tickle the wall!
