Kelly Slater don’t like to miss a swell. The man has a penchant for late-night trawling of weather charts, looking for the right combinations of swell and wind, for the right places to be. Is it, then, a coincidence that he’s in Malibu, California, during a week of incredible waves? He sure wasted no time in jetting from Brazil – the event finished two days ago, and he was in the water at Malibu yesterday.

Like most places on a coastline as popular as California’s, when spots turn on, so, too does the crowd. “Hectic, so heavy out there,” as photog Jimmy Wilson (who shot this sequence) described it. According to Jimmy, Kelly absolutely put on a show for the crowd, as he does. Throw some pros in the mix, and y’got a circus on your hands.
