Jordy Smith still gots busted-up ribs. And if it’s killing anyone, it’s Jordy – dude lives and breathes to surf. “I think the not-surfing is really getting to him,” says Blake Kueny, the dude behind Jords’ site and shooter of this photo. After hammering his rib cage during the Billabong Pro, Tahiti, Jordy’s now one of two top guys currently outta the water due to rib injury (the other being Dane Reynolds). So, what’s he been doing? “I come over to Garth Tarlow(O’Neill Team Manager)’s house in Newport beach,” explains Blake. “And Jordy’s in bed, watching the webcast, going ‘Fuck, I should be in this event, I’m so bummed, and that board out there (in the living room) would have won the contest.’ It’s some new model that he worked on with Channel Islands – it’s a mix between The Rookie and The Dumpster Diver. I think he said he wants to call it The Snookie Rookie (laughs).” So, how’s Jordy improved? Has he surfed yet? “He’s tried to surf a coupla times,” says Blake. “But just lying on his board puts him in so much pain, it’s unbearable. So he starts stickering up boards, then asks me if he can watch some old edits from Cape Town and the Maldives. He loves it and just says ‘Damn, I wish I could go surfing again.’ But thankfully his beautiful girlfriend is there to help pass the time.”
