Yesterday in round three of the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast, Jordy Smith rode five waves in his heat against Raoni Monteiro. Of those five waves, it was his first two that were his scoring rides. Of those two waves, it was his second that he threw down this air-reverse. First section, first hit, bam. He then went to work and tied it off with a flurry of wraps. It was a different man to what we saw in round one. In the first day of competition Jordy lumbered through his heat a little, with the odd flashes of brilliance. But, round two was a different story – an 8.33 and a 9.10 – and round three, he pulled this rabbit outta the hat in some challenging conditions. The contest is back on today and Jordy’s up in heat three. But don’t sweat if you miss it – this one’s a no-losers round.
