Full Frame: Gabby Ain't Going Down Without A Fight

The world title race is well and truly out of Gabby's hands. What I mean by that is, Medina could win the Pipe Masters and still lose the crown. If John makes the final, there's no way Gab can mathematically catch him, and because of seeding there's nothing Gab can do to make John falter before the finals. Unless he wants to soap John's wax or take out his knee or something.

But of course John could lose on his own accord. Last year, John fell in the quarters. The year before that, round five. In fact, John has only made the Pipe Masters final once in nine attempts. This leaves a lotta wiggle room for old Medina (who has made the finals twice in six attempts) to snatch the crown. Based on pre-Pipe reports both gents have looked incredible in warmup sessions, but as we know the ocean is a fickle mistress, and getting five heat wins is much more demanding than snagging a couple freesurf pits.
