La Graviere came to life overnight and this morning, the Quiksilver Pro came outta the gates hard. The punchy beachbreaks served a fistful of perfect barrels each heat, but every hour there’d also be a ramp. Filipe Toledo, ‘sif you need be surprised, found both. The oop he spun was so high that it was actually a true 360 (most oops are a little under). It netted him a near-perfect 9.97. And really, it had to. “Wow, what a difference a day can make,” says our photographer, Ryan Miller. “Yesterday was dead flat and today was some of the most inspiring waves and surfing I have seen in a while. In a shore break tube riding contest there were only a few made airs today (Julian Wilson’s massive straight slob is another worth mentioning). It made them that much more special that less were attempted, and that there was way less opportunity to even try an air.”
