The Archipelago of the Azores is composed of nine volcanic islands 1.5k clicks west of Lisbon, and that is where we find Evan Geiselman with his fins pointed to 11 o’clock. The SATA Airlines Azores Pro was the reason for Ev’s location, and though he didn’t make it through the round of 48, he did beat his brother Eric in the round of 96. In the world of brotherly love and competitiveness, that’s gotta count for something. “I’ve looked up to him ever since I was growing up, so he gets all the credit for where my surfing is now,” admits Ev, kindly. The Floridian is also currently riding the thrill of a return to the brine. “This is my first couple of events coming back from an ankle injury, so I’m really just trying to surf my best and take each heat at a time, no pressure.” Between heats, he created moments like this one for any photog in the vicinity. In this case, João Bracourt. Swim a well-composed background around sizzle like this and it’s five by five.
