Dion Agius, D-bah, Australia

“This is all that’ll keep me going,” said Dion Agius last night as he sipped a Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola. The caffeine in the cola was a much needed kick against the drowsiness that comes with an afternoon beer-drinking session, as he’d had that afternoon, post-surf. Dion was standing in the Coolangatta Hotel, waiting for the first Australian viewing of Globe’s new film, Year Zero, with the man behind the production, Joe G. While the cola did its job for Dion and allowed him a kick-on after the premiere, Joe retired a little earlier and passed out in the penthouse of Komune, at Rainbow Bay. And understandably so. The man’s worked his cheeks off for the last three years making an incredible surfing movie. The film was a goddamn triumph in every way. And, performance-wise, plenty of the what y’see here – tweaked airs blasted in tasteful wetsuits. The kinda thing Dion’s known well for, as the whole Globe team will be (even more-so) after the film’s done the necessary circulation. He threw down this little doozy before cracking the cap of his first beer for the afternoon. The good life, huh? Stay tuned for a full review of the film, coming real soon.
