Dane Reynolds, Cloudbreak Postcards (part one), Fiji

There’s been swell brushing Fiji of late. Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning were there filming for Mick’s new movie, Missing. For Kelly Slater, Fiji’s his second home and he probs would’ve been there at this time, regardless of swell. His good pal and new manliest man in surfing, Shane Dorian, is also on site. As is Dane Reynolds, who we see pictured here. Cloudbreak ain’t a breeze when it’s solid, and while it wasn’t as big as it gets by any means, it didn’t take long to sort the men from the boys. “There was a decent amount of people out until one big set came through and cleaned up everyone,” says our photographer, Dave Nilsen. “And then about half the guys in the water went back to the boats.” Of those who stayed out, along with Kelly and Shane, Dane here was in the mix. The tropics and trunks and big south-Pacific pulse of this photo is quite contrary to what we last saw Dane wrapped up in (frosty San Franciscan beachies). And it’s a welcome change of pace. Oh, and some of Dane’s Halloween-in-Fiji Instagram videos from last night are rather entertaining.
