Today, the Rip Curl Cup, Padang Padang, fired up at, uh, Padang. Yesterday, a memorial paddle out for was held for legendary shaper and surfer, Allan Byrne, who passed away during the week following a motorbike accident (full story here). The event has been dedicated to the memory of Allan and will celebrate his life just as it should: With the riding of barrels. This morning, round one steamed and although Christian Fletcher (pictured) was knocked, the field is still full of colour and will no doubt thrill when the contest resumes – it’s currently on hold to wait out the tide. Keep your eyes peeled over here for some wild ol’ tuberiding this afternoon.
