Chris ‘Chippa’ Wilson, Tuncurry
Nine hours on the road ain’t no short drive. But that’s what you gots to do if you want to get from the Sunshine Coast to NSW’s mid-north coast without the aid of flight. By the time Chippa Wilson and photographer Matthew O’Brien arrived it was still light but they were over surfing – they’d been stuck in a car all day, and all the spots seemed to be blown out. Reduce the water temp a few degrees to home and it was grim. Luckily they found this bank at Tuncurry – there were only two other guys out for a late paddle, and Chippa had his pick of the fun little lefts. This was one of many frontside no-grab air reverses that he nailed – according to Matt he landed every one he tried. The boys spent the next few days riding skate ramps at house parties, where everyone stood around bonfires and jammed on guitars and drums. Even if the waves weren’t the best, the nine hours were still worth it. – Elliot Struck Check out Matty’s site here.
