Can Ian Crane And Chippa Wilson Catch A Wave In The Ocean And The Pool In 10 Minutes?
2 birds, 1 GoPro.
PerfectSwell Shizunami is geographically closer to the ocean than any other wavepool in the world.
Sitting a mere one block away from Makinohara Beach, this pool is also the location of Stab High Japan Presented by Monster Energy, which will be broadcast live on Stab Premium for all to see on June 22nd and June 23 (JST) — that’s Friday, June 21st and Saturday, June 22nd to those in the U.S. and everyone else east of the International Date Line.
In preparation for our annual surf contest mostly in the air, we sent two agents (Chip and Crane) on a recon mission last month to (1) Find out how two English-speakers with massive board bags can get from Tokyo to Shizunami and (2) See how much spring the ramp has.
The mission was successful on both counts. We compiled our findings for objective one in this article — “How To Get To Stab High Japan“. And our findings for objective two are hinted at in this GoPro collab video above (more footy coming soon…). The boys’ biggest takeaway? The ramp’s got punch. In fact, technically speaking, it’s the biggest and best ramp we’ve had in our three seasons of chlorinated Stab Highs.
To make things a little more interesting, we gave the boys a challenge: Can they each catch a wave in the ocean and a wave in the pool in under 10 minutes?
Take a gander at the clip above to find out.
And check out the official Stab High Japan Presented by Monster Energy info page for all the deets on the event schedule.
