Watch “Searching For Tom Curren” Remastered Frame By Frame!
Sonny Miller’s lost opus is premiering at La Paloma Friday (tonight), also available on DVD and select streaming services.
In our little subcultural enclave, Sonny Miller’s Searching For Tom Curren, is a sacred document.
For years, Sonny Miller’s homage of the Most Stylish Surfer Of All Time, Tom Curren, was unavailable in any quality form, save for the occasional VHS on eBay, or low quality digital rip from the infamous Search box set that was briefly available in the early-00s, then disappeared entirely due to legal issues around music clearances, amongst other complications.
All this to say that it has been literally an entire generation since surfers have enjoyed what many consider to be the greatest surf film of all time in anything close to the quality that the late, great Sonny Miller would have accepted.
Thankfully, Miller’s longtime righthand man, Fiberglass and Megapixel director Derek Hoffmann has been doing the holy work of remastering Searching For Tom Curren, frame by frame, and is releasing it to the world for your viewing pleasure this week.
While the film becomes available for streaming and purchase on nalu.tv tomorrow, it’s premiering tonight at La Paloma in Encinitas (plus Tom will be playing a live set before the first screening).
You can purchase a limited-edition DVD and Blu Ray, with accompanying photos from the project, here.
