The Eddie is off, Waimea is on.

Yesterday Pipe had some of the best conditions of the whole 22/23 season. Oddly enough, the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout didn’t run. Rumor has it the broadcast team were double-booked for the Eddie Aikau, and shifted resources west to Waimea after the event was put on green alert. 

Then the Eddie was called off… and neither event ran. 

Waimea is still however breaking, and dare I say contestable? If we don’t get another Waimea swell this season, it will be the seventh year in a row that the Eddie hasn’t run. There is hope on the near horizon that a spike in swell around the 23rd Jan will be big enough to break the Bay for the big wave event. 

We’ve learned not to hold our breath though.
