Three Minutes Of Kelly Slater Waxing Nostalgic At Velvety Snapper

Dan Scott and the GOAT never disappoint.

A few weeks ago, Kelly Slater wandered into Kirra Surf on the Gold Coast alongside Britt Merrick, Darren Handley, Marcio Zouvi, and more industry names — to field a handful of questions from a starry-eyed audience.

Slater, planted in the centre, surrounded by a forest of phones, transformed into a cryptic seer. He took the mic, looked the crowd dead in the eye, and announced that his boards were “ready,” he was “locked in,” and just waiting on a swell for a certain project — whatever that means. We have no idea. Couldn’t guess if we tried.  Must be something he’s working on later this year, but honestly, that’s just a stab in the dark.

At some point during his subsequent late Autumn tenure on the Gold Coast, the 11x World Champion linked up with Dan Scott and a handful of stomach high Snapper Rocks sections. The first craft underhoof is a new quad by Daniel Thomson (Tomo) that Stu Kennedy (of Sci Fi fame) has been championing around the east coast’s more clandestine points. The board has piqued Kelly’s interest and he’s considering riding a slightly pointier version at Lowers in the upcoming CT event.
