These Boardies Won’t Bust Your Balls For Surfing Too Much
That’s your partner’s job.
You wouldn’t think boardies needed to change a lot since their first iteration. And at face value, they haven’t, they have remained knee length +- 10cm, loose-fitting practical surf garments.
The true litmus test of a boardshort is the surf trip, where a quality boardshort needs to dry fast, fit comfortably, look good, stretch, and importantly, prevent chafing. A chafe in the gooch/groin area can wreak havoc on a surf trip, with potentially devastating surf-sidelining consequences.
Luckily, the designers at O’neill put their thinking caps on and recognised that the in-seam which stitches the fabric from the ballbag region to the thigh area was implicated in surf chafe, where the board causes the in-seam to rub against the ballbag/groin area and irritate dermis.
The new Hyperfreak series have removed said in-seam, added a flush closure system so there’s no niggling navel pain, and used stretchy material made from Repreve® Recycled Fibers, to blend sustainability with performance.
