The Unprecedented Rise Of Modern Brazilian Surfing

Gabriel Medina’s 2014 victory was the first time a Brazilian surfer won the WCT.

For years, surfing was dominated by Australians, Hawaiians, and Kelly Slater. Today, there are 11 Brazilian surfers on tour, and most of them sit high up in the rankings. 

Tati West is currently ranked 2nd on the women’s tour, and the top 3 surfers on the men’s side include Gabriel Medina, Italo Ferreira, and Filipe Toledo

The WSL just released a new film covering Brazilian surfers’ swift and impressive rise on the CT. The film begins with the success of Adriano de Souza and follows everything up until this year.
