The Uluwatu Single Fin Classic Runs This Weekend

And it comes with a six-foot forecast and an unbelievable lineup.

“It’s the fifth year we’ve run the Single Fin Classic,” entrepreneurial warlord Tai Buddha tells me. “Basically, it’s just inspired by the first guys who ride single fins out here back in the day. The first year it was super hard to get anybody to come into it, they couldn’t get their heads around riding shitty boards in pumping waves. Now we’ve just got the craziest lineup of surfers coming in. Waves are looking mental — it’s going to be firing with a huge swell kicking in Sunday afternoon. It’s a full community event with international guys and heaps of local crew. All of Ulus is booked out — every hotel and villa and homestay. The whole surf community’s come down for this one.

The list of surfers is remarkable, with the lineup including:

Occy, Parko, M-Feb, Made Lana, Joel Tudor, Tosh Tudor, Jay Davies, Noah Collins, Jarred Mell, Bruno Santos, Luke Cederman, Alex Knost, Harrison Roach, Ryuki Waida, Alejandro Moreda, Joel Fitzgerald, Rizal Tandjung, Oscar Langbourne, Ozzie Wright, Lungi Slabb, Koby Abberton, Torren Martyn, Beau Cram, Mason Ho, Tai Buddha, Mega, Bol, Westen Hurst, Varun Tandjung, Hotman, Koa Rothman, Eli Olson, Balaram Stack,William Alliotti, Mason Ho, Clay Marzo + More

“First, we do a few rounds of men, then womens, and juniors and a Masters Heat,” explains Tai. “This year though we have too many dudes in the first round. There were too many good guys, I couldn’t say no to everyone, so I think we’re going to have seven eight man heats in the first round and then six man heats into the quarters. Also, I’m going to do an Occy heat just before the final and probably send him and Made Lana out, just let everyone sit back on the cliff and enjoy the sunset and watch two legends surf.”

At the last minute, Tai had a friend offer to stream the contest for the first time, for free. As we speak, he’s attempting to ramshackle together a bootleg livestream. If he makes it happen, we’ll throw it up on our site for you to enjoy.

Comp starts tonight, Friday August 16th at 5pm and finishes whenever you decide to go to sleep on Sunday night.

The prize for winning is a Gerry Lopez single fin, and Single Fin Uluwatu will be flying the highest placed locals to compete in next years Burleigh Single Fin comp.
