The Crisp Hollow Delights Of New Zealand
Elliot Paerata Reid, Kehu Butler, Ware Wano, and Dune Kennings give us the tour.
The frontman for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Anthony Kiedis, once bought a 169-acre farmhouse in New Zealand.
A paragraph from his autobiography Scar Tissue reads, “We went out on the most gorgeous, sunny day. I fell in love with the place, even though Kai Para Harbor is an incredibly rough body of water where great white sharks go to breed.”
What he later realized was that New Zealand, more often than not, is a frigid, gray and rainy place to live.
While the dual-island nation lacks the weather of a tropical paradise, it offers a connection to some decent swell. Local boys Elliot Paerata Reid, Kehu Butler, Ware Wano, and Dune Kennings know exactly when to be, where to be, and how much neoprene to pack.
Their recent film ‘Bro Town’ is a smörgåsbord of carves, tubes, punts, and just about anything else you’d look for in well-rounded surfing.
