Surfer Bitten By Large Shark In Northern California
“It definitely wasn’t a quick attack. It was nice and slow.”
A man in his 30s was bitten by a shark on Sunday morning while surfing near Bodega Bay.
The victim’s injuries were severe, and bystanders said he had a real struggle with the shark.
There were several surfers in the water, including Jared Davis who was paddling out with his friend, Eric. That’s when a swell rose up between Davis and a man floating next to him.
“When he was back into view, I saw the dorsal fin of the shark and then I saw the tail fin of the shark kind of going down into the water,” Davis told CBS San Francisco. “It definitely wasn’t a quick attack. It was nice and slow.”
Witness reports and the wide arc of teeth marks left on the surfboard suggest that this was a large shark.
Nearby surfers helped the victim to shore and used leashes as a tourniquet for his injured leg. He was airlifted to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition.
