Scientists Study The Anatomy Of An Olympic Surfer
Science, surfing, and more science.
Of Course: surfing gets ready to make its Olympic debut, and the whole world closes its borders. COVID-19 issues pushed back the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games to July of 2021, leaving us 7 more months to twiddle our thumbs. Undoubtedly, surfers have always been an outcast in the sports world. I assume it may have something to do with our pothead hippie history. Finally our voices are being heard, and we get to join the sacred hierarchy of athleticism.
Being the new guys/gals in town, the Olympics organization wanted to see what we’re made of. Literally, a group of scientists invited Costa Rican ripper Brisa Hennessy to a UFC test facility. During this time, they ran experiments to determine her body’s anatomy. They measured muscle mass, fat composition, and force exertion.
What did they find?
In conclusion, Surfers are strong— results proving upper body strength, lower body strength, and endurance. Brisa’s results stacked up well against a variety of Olympic Athletes. Maybe surfing is a bit more physically demanding than table tennis. Who would have thought?
