Lower Trestles Mob Teleports 405.1 Miles North
Griff says: Boys, I have an Airbnb.
In November, we were filming Ramble On with Caity Simmers in Santa Cruz.
During our first surf, Nate Lawrence drove us to a promising crevice on the rural coastline — tons of rights, an empty cliffside, and fewer people. It felt nice to be isolated. Then the Lower Trestles mod pulled up. We held our breath and prayed. The three vans drove off.
“We saw you guys and were thinking — oh no, this is day number one, already your entire crew and all three of our cars,” Jacob Vanderwork later said, recalling the near-encounter from his vantage point. Jacob was filming the Cola Bros x 2percent surf edit featured above. The SC ratpack was in Santa Cruz during the Cold Water Classic for three reasons other than the Q-ey.
Reason 1: Griff rented a house
The Cold Water Classic was the perfect excuse for a road trip up north. Fun waves abound in either direction of Santa Cruz, and Griff was happy to front the cost so long as his lineup hierarchy translated to the walls of their Airbnb. The groms stayed below deck while Jacob and Crosby slept upstairs — Griffin took the master.
Reason 2: Break the monotony
Even rituals as timeless as splitting every set that rolls into Lowers must be broken. A brief hiatus in the land of beach breaks, points, and booties fuels the soul.
Reason 3: Film 2percent surf content.
2percent surf is a San Clemente community-based media outlet — think Chapter 11 but Lowers. The goal is to give local talent a platform. Above, you’ll get a taste of what we can expect from the 2 percent crew — a lottttt of talent, Peter Pan lifestyles, and high-impact surfing.
2percent’s premiere film is coming in the next couple of weeks. Stay tuned.
