Kelly Slater Entertains The Idea Of Hosting The 2028 Olympic Games At The Surf Ranch
“It’s something that could be done. You’ve got my brain thinking it over.”
In a recent interview with the LA Times, Kelly Slater wrapped his head around the possibility of the surf ranch being the wave of choice for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Although the official list of sports has not been submitted yet, surfing is expected to be on it, given its inclusion in the Tokyo games.
LA Times writer David Wharton just planted a seed in the brain of the man who owns the most consistent wave in California, asking Kelly his thoughts on hosting the games at the surf ranch.
“I think by then we’ll have other designs,” Slater told Wharton after an exhibition session during the junior national championships at Lower Trestles on San Onofre State Beach this week. “Maybe something a little shorter, maybe a 20-second ride would be optimum because you could push as hard as you want and have enough variety in the maneuvers.”
“It’s something that could be done. You’ve got my brain thinking it over.” Kelly added.
Surfing’s most persistent competitor has a successful track record in business ventures, a wave unhindered by mother nature, and seven years to close the deal. Seems to me like we just got confirmation of an Olympic event at Lemoore.
Sorry Buckley, but we’re not done in the desert.
