Jack Freestone took to Instagram today to announce that he will be taking a break from competitive surfing after the Haleiwa event.

His reasons for departure include injuries, family, traveling, mental health, COVID etc.

The full caption reads:

Well. Don’t know where to start. It’s been a roller coaster of emotions this year. I’m gonna try keep it short. It’s been a long road of competing and I’m finally glad I can’t take a break and be at peace with it. So many things came into play with this decision, injuries, family, traveling, mental health, COVID etc, so I’m taking a break from competitive surfing, Haleiwa event will more than likely be my last event for a while. Just to be clear it’s a break not retirement. I’m not shutting the door on competitive surfing just simply leaving the room for a while. Thank you to all my sponsors, family and friends. Time to free surf and make a surf movie again.

Jack Freestone will now be the 7th pro surfer to back out of next years tour.

The real question is, who’s next?
