Italo Ferreira’s story of competitive surf stardom is just beginning, but (as with anything great) it has been a long road to get to this place.

Thankfully for all surf fans, Italo’s main sponsor has done their due diligence and invested heavily in telling the story of their marquee athlete. ‘The Curious Tales of Italo Ferreira’, as directed by filmmaker Luiza De Moraes, goes back to the very beginning, where a young Italo Ferreira found surfing in his hometown of Baia Formosa.

While life in Baia Formosa is centered around the sea, most find work as fisherman or in the region’s ample sugarcane fields—not as a genuine world beater. As his town’s breakout star in a sport that little thought would bring commercial success, it’s easy to see why Italo has found comfort in being different—something which all lovers of sport should be grateful for.

Talking to members of his town, his friends and his family, ‘The Curious Tales of Italo Ferreira’ will be the most intricate look at our 2019 World Champion we have seen. Of course this is all before mentioning the surfing, which is sure to be be must-see TV. As Italo’s friend described it: ‘Explosive, Radical, Fast, Pure Caffeine.’
