Over A Million Dollars Worth Of Surfboards Sold In Minutes
Hayden Cox is a genius.
A few days ago, we mentioned a collaboration between Haydenshapes and New York-based artist Daniel Arsham, with a crystalized surfboard being the highlight of the collection. While the concept of mixing designer accessories with surf product seemed awkward, it turned out to be pretty successful.
The boards sold out almost immediately, giving 500 partially see-through Haydenshapes a new home. With a retail cost of $2500, this equates to $1,250,000 in sales. And of course, when there’s a short supply and high demand, you can expect resellers to work their magic.
Truthfully, I don’t enjoy the concept of wall hangers. I believe a beautiful surfboard has pressure dings, love bumps, and a bit of yellowing throughout. However, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t impressed by the marketing skills of Hayden Cox. Personal fiberglass-based feelings aside, this is fucking brilliant.
