The annual Surf City Surf Dog event at Huntington Dog Beach features a multi-heat dog surfing competition, that ran in parallel with the US Open just down the beach.

Surf dog competitors had twelve minutes to catch his or her top five waves and be judged by local celebrities and surf judges on confidence level, length of ride, and overall ability to ride the wave.

The event had multiple brackets including:

  • Tandem – Owner/Dog or Dog/Dog
  • Shredders – Owner launched only
  • X-Large Dogs (66 lbs +)
  • Large Dogs (46 lbs – 65 lbs)
  • Small Dogs (20 lbs and under)
