Ethan Ewing Is Back
Ripping Trestles less than a month after breaking his back in Tahiti.
Less than a month after fracturing his L3 and L4 vertebrae in the freesurfs before the Tahiti Pro last month, Ethan Ewing, the silky smooth 25-year-old from South Stradbroke Island was captured tearing apart Trestles like a hot bird this morning.
Hopes of seeing the World #3 surf at Lowers were needle-thin to non-existent until word got out he’d ordered a fresh quiver of Darren Handley’s and booked a flight to LAX.
Four days ago Ethan posted for the first time since his injury writing, “It’s been just over 3 weeks since I got home after injuring my back in Tahiti. It’s been great to have been back here with so much support with my rehab and I’m much more comfortable now that my pain levels have dropped significantly! I’ve still got a long way to go but I’m doing everything I can to give myself a chance to compete at Trestles!”
The IG triggered an avalanche of kind words from surfing’s elite @mfanno @shanedorian and @rissmore08 etc. Nathan Hedge responded, “Beware the wounded gull, always the most deadly guy in the draw. Simplifying the game can work wonders! Cheering for you brother, you got this”.
Foreboding words from the Hog.
Ethan’s first heat will be the winner of the Volcom heat (Jack Robinson vs Joao Chianca).
Pray for a Steven Bradbury.
