The Jaws and Nazare events are now awaiting the perfect blob.

By perfect we mean huge, purpley-red blobs representing low pressure system, long periods, and bouncing buoys.

Between now and March 31 2022, two major events at the premier big-wave locations of Jaws and Nazaré could run. This means some of the best big-wave surfers in the world are on standby for the Quiksilver Jaws Big Wave Challenge and the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge presented by Jogos Santa Casa.

During the window, the World Surf League’s Tours and Competitions office will closely monitor conditions for the two venues, and if/when the stars align, the commissioners will make a call to run each event.

The ride of year, performer of the year and biggest tow award for women were all won at Jaws last year by Justine Dupont.

Justine took out all three categories for her performances at Jaws.
The biggest paddle was won at Jaws by Kai Lenny.
Sebastian Steudtner took out biggest tow at Nazare.
